Peer Recovery Support Coordinator

Specialty Court - Paw Paw, MI - Full Time

Pay Rate: $24.81-33.80 based on experience
HOURS:
  Full-Time 37.5 hrs per week
GRADE:  R26 Non-Union                                                                                                

JOB SUMMARY:  This position will participate in the organizational planning processes and contribute to the expansion of peer recovery and after-care services for program participants and graduates experiencing multiple disadvantages. Services include engagement, assessment of needs, social support, linking, transportation, and mentoring to facilitate strength-based recovery. Peer recovery support may be provided in conjunction with treatment, or as a separate and distinct service to program participants and graduates during their recovery.

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Must have two or more years’ experience working with individuals with a range of health and social care needs, specifically in the fields of substance addiction, homelessness, mental health, and/or criminal justice.
  • Must have Strong leadership and people management skills; ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Must have understanding and sensitivity to the impact of substance misuse and mental illness on individuals, families, and the community.
  • Must be task focused as well as people centered.
  • Must have experience coordinating volunteers or peer supporters in a person-centered way.
  • Experience delivering training to volunteers and/or staff preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of five continuous years in personal recovery after the age of 18.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to recovery philosophy.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to continued education on wellness, recovery, and peer leadership.
  • Must have mental illness, substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorder(s) and have received treatment from a public or private provider.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

 
  1. Provide support and mentorship to the Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS).
  2. Coordinate Peer Recovery Support trainings.
  3. Review PRSS time sheets for accuracy prior to processing.
  4. Complete community outreach for purposes of providing community peer support, education, advocacy, and reduction of stigma and discrimination.
  5. Build and maintain close links and good relationships with local community groups and representatives to build networks of support and liaise regularly with services. Facilitate multiagency networking to create and maintain positive and effective partnership development for the benefit of program participants and graduates, PRSS, and the Specialty Courts.
  6. Work with other CJS stakeholders to identify potential participants for treatment court programs in VBC and increase the # of referrals to the program; actively recruit participants
  7. Meet regularly with Specialty Courts Administrator to discuss peer recovery support operations, activities, concerns, incidents, performance, ideas, etc.
  8. Adhere to Michigan Certified Peer Recovery Coach Code of Ethics.
  9. Provide transportation to program participants and graduates.
  10. Attend relevant seminars and trainings, including out of town trainings, as directed.


QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
Michigan Peer Recovery Coach certification required OR equivalent (NAADAC or NCPS). Mental activities required by this position include decision making, interpersonal skills, teamwork, creativity, customer service, mentoring, use of discretion, presentations/teaching, problem solving, and the ability to read, speak and understand English.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The individual in this position is an at-will employee.  Must adhere to the Court’s Model Code of Conduct for Judicial Branch Employees.  Employment is dependent on background check, criminal history and fingerprint check, and drug screen.  Applicant must complete County application form.

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing five to twenty-five pounds.
